Pakistan imports reach record $61 billion in 2017/2018

KARACHI: Pakistan’s imports have registered record around $61 billion during fiscal year 2017/2018 despite restriction imposed on various luxury and non-essential items.
According to statistics issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday, the imports recorded $60.89 billion during July – June 2017/2018 as compared with $52.9 billion in the preceding fiscal year, showing growth of 15.10 percent.
On the other hand exports registered 13.74 percent growth with the help of assistance provided by the government to exporters.
The exports increased to $23.23 billion during the fiscal year 2017/2018 as compared with $20.42 billion in the preceding fiscal year.
The trade deficit for the year recorded at 16 percent to $37.67 billion as compared with deficit of $32.48 billion.
