Trade deficit widens by 29.75pc in July – September

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s trade deficit has widened by 29.75 percent to $9.08 billion in first quarter of current fiscal year owing to phenomenal increase in imports.
According to trade summary released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) for the period July – September 2017/2018 on Wednesday, the trade deficit was at $7 billion in the same quarter last year.
The imports registered sharp growth of 22.19 percent to $14.26 billion during the first quarter of current fiscal year as compared with $11.67 billion in the corresponding quarter of the last fiscal year.
The exports also exhibited growth of 10.84 percent to $5.17 billion in the quarter under review as compared with $4.66 billion in the same period of the last year.
