Pakistan Railways notifies up to 19pc increase in passenger fares

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has increased passenger fares up to 19 percent for traveling on different trains and classes effective from December 07, 2018. The highest increase in fare of 19 percent has been recorded for economy class while traveling Rawalpindi-Karachi on trains included Pakistan Express, Subak Rafta, Subak Kharam, Rawalpindi Express and Islamabad Express.

 

 

 

The revised rates of Pakistan Railways notified on Tuesday. The decision to increase passenger fares has been taken in the wake of recent rupee depreciation, which increased the cost of fuel.

According to new rate sheet:

— Up to Rs540 or 10 percent has been increased on the fare of AC Business Class of Green Line.

— The fair of Karakoram Express has been increased by Rs500 to Rs5,450 for AC Business Class and Rs170 to Rs1,820 for economy class, showing increase of 10 percent.

— Around 12.1 percent increase in the fare of trains including Karachi Express, Business Express, Shalimar Express, Shah Hussain Express for classes including AC Sleeper, AC Business, AC Parlor, AC Standard and Economy.

— An increase of 13 percent in fares has been notified for trains including Khyber Mail, Awam Express, Allama Iqbal Express for all four classes for destinations Peshawar-Karachi and Lahore – Karachi.

— Pakistan Railways increased fare by 15 percent for Tezgam for classes including AC Sleeper, AC Business, AC Standard and Economy.

— In case of Millat Express, 15 percent raise in fare for all the four classes on the destinations Faisalabad-Karachi, Sargodha-Karachi and Mianwali-Karachi.

— The fare has been increased by 17 percent for train Bahauddin Zakria Express for traveling between Multa-Karachi.

— The highest increase in fare of 19 percent has been recorded for economy class while traveling Rawalpindi-Karachi on trains included Pakistan Express, Subak Rafta, Subak Kharam, Rawalpindi Express and Islamabad Express. However, 7-11 percent increase has been notified for the all four classes while traveling on such trains between Lahore-Rawalpindi.

— About 7 percent increase has been notified for traveling between Lahore-Multan on Musa Pak and Multan Express.

— An increase of 15 percent in fare has been notified for Sukkur Express for all the four classes.
